People with this hair color live longer

Researchers at the University of Cambridge have discovered how hair color affects life expectancy, writes Nature Communications.

Experts have studied the genome of more than 100,000 people and concluded that hair color actually affects life expectancy.

The people were divided into two groups. In one are the volunteers with light hair, and in the other – with dark. The study showed that people with dark hair start puberty earlier than those with light hair.

Early puberty sometimes leads to a risk of heart and blood vessel problems, as well as diabetes, scientists say. In this way, life expectancy can be shorter than that of people with blonde hair.

Blondes do not have such a heavy load on the body at an early age and live longer.

Scientists are convinced that the connection between hair color and puberty is through the pituitary gland. It is this gland that is responsible for the production of hormones that affect pigmentation and regulate the maturation of the gonads.
