PARIS, FRANCE, August 2, 2021 /EINPresswire.com/ — On Tuesday, August 3, the Iranian regime’s next president will be inaugurated. But Ebrahim Raisi’s formal inauguration as president is anything but normal. It is rather a significant inaugural point that, in all likelihood, marks the beginning of the end for a brutal regime. The theocracy’s death throes are discernible for several reasons.

The regime is more illegitimate and vulnerable than ever before. The sham presidential “elections” that vaulted Raisi to the presidency in June were resoundingly boycotted by the Iranian people. Credible opposition sources estimated that less than 10% of the population appeared at the polls.

Against this backdrop, the mullahs’ Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, has embarked on a massive campaign to purge rival factions. His power base continues to shrink, pushing him to close ranks. His latest decisions to install a mass murderer as president and a professional killer named Gholam-Hossein Eje’i as the judiciary chief smack of desperation, not strength. And his anxiety results from growing protests and uprisings.

Even amid the coronavirus pandemic and the regime’s vicious suppression, dozens of cities in Iran have risen up for the third week after protests broke out in Khuzestan province.

The regime is mired in existential crises and is effectively in a state of emergency. Large swathes of the population harbor significant and growing grievances that they attribute to the incompetent and corrupt clerical dictators. In addition to rampant inflation and poverty, the people are grappling with vast shortages of basics like water and electricity.

Close to 350,000 people have died so far due to the regime’s astonishing mismanagement of the coronavirus in Iran, which among others included the decision to ban any vaccine made by US and the UK. Still, fewer than 3% of the population has been fully vaccinated.

This situation is not sustainable and the regime has no solutions for it other than guns and bullets or trying to restrict access to the Internet. Since December 2017, multiple mass uprisings have shaken the regime, and the theocracy is fearful that more are on the way. So, Khamenei is hoping to regroup his most loyal functionaries behind the likes of Raisi and Eje’i as a barrier against uprisings. But it is too late.

Ebrahim Raisi is particularly a lightning rod of popular outrage, owing to his involvement in the gruesome 1988 massacre, which followed Khomeini’s decree that all political prisoners affiliated with the People’s Mujahedin of Iran (PMOI/MEK), who remained loyal to the organization and their ideals, must be executed. Known as the “1988 Henchman,” Raisi was part of a “Death Commission” involved in the executions and forced disappearances of over 30,000 political prisoners in the span of a few months in 1988. For the Iranian people, he is a grisly reminder of the theocracy’s vicious nature.

As Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, the President-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), said in an address to the Free Iran World Summit on July 10, “Only the regime’s fear of the uprisings and the supreme leader’s political demise can explain Raisi’s taking office.”

Under these circumstances, the silence of Western governments is deeply troubling. Instead of hoping to re-engage the regime in Vienna over its nuclear program, the international community needs to come to grips with the fact that the regime is forging a dangerous path. It will increase suppression at home, advance its regional designs more aggressively, and pursue its clandestine nuclear weapons program with more vigor.

With independent and human rights’ calls abounding, the international community must arrange for the investigation into, and prosecution of Raisi and other mass murderers who have thrived in Iran’s murder machinery. Failure to act is both immoral and politically counterproductive. It simply means turning a blind eye on the suppression of the Iranian people and giving impunity to the criminals ruling Iran to slaughter more people. It will also have dire consequences for international peace and stability.

Forescout Closes an Agreement With Multipoint and Ingecom to Gain Presence in the Mediterranean
Forescout Closes an Agreement With Multipoint and Ingecom to Gain Presence in the Mediterranean

The manufacturer closes an agreement in mid-July to market its solutions through MultiPoint Group in Israel and Palestine

/EIN News/ — KEFAR SABA, Israel, Aug. 02, 2021 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Forescout, leader in the security of the Enterprise of Things, has signed in July a distribution agreement with The Multipoint Group, a Value Added Distributor (VAD) expert in IT security and Internet technology solutions, to expand the commercialization of its solutions in Israel, as well as in the neighboring country, Palestine. Recall that the manufacturer already had a presence in Israel, since the company was founded in that state in the year 2000 and since then distributes its technology in that geographical area.

The recently reached agreement is only Forescout’s first step to further strengthen its position in the Mediterranean area thanks to the strategic alliance of The Multipoint Group and Ingecom, a VAD specialized in cybersecurity and cyberintelligence solutions, which closed both distributors in January 2021. The manufacturer now sets its sights on the benefits that the joint strength of the two VADs will bring to boost its sales in the whole area they cover.

Ingecom has been marketing Forescout’s solutions since 2010 in Spain and, subsequently, also in Italy and Portugal. Now, thanks to the alliance made between both VADs, the manufacturer will be able to increase its reach, adding synergies that will allow it to develop a unified channel strategy through a single interlocutor in the different countries where these distributors have a presence.

Jorge Hermosillo, Director, Southern Europe-Balkans-Israel at Forescout, states that: “Our philosophy and channel model fits perfectly with the characteristics of The Multipoint Group presence, capillarity and experience in the market, technical competence and proactivity in business generation. This agreement, reinforced with the alliance between Multipoint and Ingecom, adds great flexibility of expansion in line with our business strategy.”

For his part, Ricardo Resnik, CEO of The Multipoint Group, points out that: “Forescout is a benchmark in the technology of VISIBILITY and control of devices in both IT and OT networks. We are very happy to start working with them in Israel and Palestine. In addition, thanks to the strategic alliance reached with Ingecom, we are going to take a step further, providing the manufacturer with a broader coverage in all the countries where we have a presence.”

Due to this agreement signed between Multipoint Group and Ingecom at the beginning of the year, both VADs have expanded their distribution market, covering a total of nine countries, almost all of them bathed by the Mediterranean Sea and members of the European Union – Portugal, Spain, Italy, Malta, Cyprus, Greece and Romania – in addition to Israel and the United Arab Emirates.

Forescout has not been the only manufacturer to sign up to the benefits offered by this strategic alliance. At the end of January of this year, SealPath joined the agreement, expanding the distribution with Multipoint Group of Israel to the rest of the countries where the VAD has presence, in order to become the reference IRM manufacturer also in these regions. These two companies come to swell the list of manufacturers that have opted for the alliance of The Multipoint Group and Ingecom, consolidating the portfolio of both distributors to unify it. At the moment, the VADs have a common portfolio of eleven solutions consisting of AlienVault (AT&T Security), ExtraHop, Forescout, Garland Technology, Kela, ReSec, SealPath, Thycotic, Vicarius, Yubico and Zimperium.

Simplify risk management

Forescout’s technology focuses on actively defending the Enterprise of Things by identifying, segmenting and enforcing policies on each of the devices that connect to the corporate network. Specifically, Forescout provides an enterprise platform deployed at scale capable of monitoring IT and OT networks from a single dashboard, without the need to install agents and independent of the company’s infrastructure. In addition, it provides intelligence on connected devices, allowing organizations in any industry to accurately classify risk, detect anomalies and quickly remediate cyber threats, without disrupting critical business assets.

In its more than 20 years of experience, Forescout has protected the Enterprise of Things of more than 4.000 companies and government agencies in more than 90 countries, effectively mitigating the risks of devices connected to the network.

More Religious Rights vs LGBTQ Rights
Some justices on the Supreme Court, which ruled in favor of the Catholic agency in Fulton vs. City of Philadelphia, are seen as questioning the future of Employment Division v. Smith, a landmark decision known for changing the scope of free exercise doctrine. Similar questions on religious freedom and LGBTQ rights are also at the center of debate over the proposed Equality Act in Congress. The bill aims to amend the Civil Rights Act of 1964 to prohibit discrimination on the basis of sex, sexual orientation, and gender identity in a wide range of areas.

India-China wrap up 12th round of military talks on optimistic note
India-China wrap up 12th round of military talks on optimistic note

The 12th round of military talks between India and China wrapped up on a positive note amid growing hopes of reaching an understanding on the disengagement of troops from Hot Springs and Gogra on the Line of Actual Control, sources told News18.

Modalities will be worked out on how to take the process forward and a joint statement is expected on Monday, reported News18.

The meeting between corps commander-ranked officers of the Indian Army and the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) at the Moldo border point on the Chinese side of the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh on Saturday began at 10.30 am and ended at 7.30 pm, officials familiar with the development said.

At nine hours, this was possibly the shortest round of talks between the two armies, reported Hindustan Times.

Defence establishment sources were hopeful of reaching an understanding for disengagement from Hot Springs and Gogra Post, Patrolling Point (PP) 15 and PP17A, respectively, friction points.

It is learnt that both sides discussed “specific details to cool tempers in the remaining friction points including moving ahead with the disengagement process and agreed to jointly maintain stability on the ground”.

Hotline set up between army HQs

A hotline was established between Indian Army in Kongra La, North Sikkim and PLA at Khamba Dzong in Tibetan Autonomous Region to further the spirit of trust and cordial relations along the borders. The event coincided with the PLA Day on 1 August, said the Indian Army.

These hotlines in various sectors go a long way in enhancing the same and maintaining peace and tranquility at the borders, the army said.

The inauguration was attended by ground commanders of the respective armies and a message of friendship and harmony was exchanged through the hotline.

The Indian side forcefully pressed for early resolution of the standoff and particularly insisted on expeditious disengagement in Hot Springs and Gogra, a source said.

Ahead of the talks, sources said India was hopeful of a positive outcome on the disengagement process.

India has been insisting that the resolution of the outstanding issues, including at Depsang, Hot Springs and Gogra, is essential for the overall ties between the two countries.

The latest round of talks took place after a gap of more than three and a half months. The 11th round of military dialogue had taken place on 9 April at the Chushul border point on the Indian side of the LAC and it lasted for around 13 hours.

The 12th round of military talks took place over two weeks after External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar firmly conveyed to his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi that the prolongation of the existing situation in eastern Ladakh was visibly impacting the bilateral ties in a “negative manner”.

The two foreign ministers had held a one-hour bilateral meeting on the sidelines of a conclave of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) in Tajik capital city Dushanbe on 14 July. In the meeting, Jaishankar had told Wang that any unilateral change in the status quo along the LAC was “not acceptable” to India and that the overall ties can only develop after full restoration of peace and tranquillity in eastern Ladakh.

In the last round of military talks, both sides discussed ways to take forward the disengagement process in Hot Springs, Gogra and Depsang with a larger aim to bring down tensions in the region. However, there was no forward movement in the disengagement process.

The Indian delegation at Saturday’s talks was led by Lt Gen PGK Menon, the Commander of the Leh-based 14 Corps.

The border stand-off between the Indian and Chinese militaries erupted in May last year following a violent clash in the Pangong lake areas and both sides gradually enhanced their deployment by rushing in tens of thousands of soldiers as well as heavy weaponry.

As a result of a series of military and diplomatic talks, the two sides completed the withdrawal of troops and weapons from the North and South banks of Pangong lake in February in line with an agreement on disengagement.

Each side currently has around 50,000 to 60,000 troops along the LAC in the sensitive sector.

Press release

Copenhagen, 2 August 2021

The number of COVID-19 cases in the WHO European Region has passed the milestone of 60 million since the pandemic began, new data from WHO/Europe shows.

Dr Dorit Nitzan, WHO Regional Emergency Director for Europe said, “The end of the pandemic is still over the horizon and sadly, so far in the European Region, there have been more than 1.2 million COVID-19 deaths. It is important that countries continue their combined efforts to protect their most vulnerable people and those at risk.

“Overall vaccination uptake varies widely between the Member States in the WHO European Region and the vaccination coverage amongst the priority population groups such as the over 60s, health care workers, people living in long-term care facilities, and those with underlying conditions is still low in a few countries. As vaccines are proven effective in preventing severe illness and deaths, more cases in these priority groups will mean more hospitalizations and deaths. So we must urgently get all the priority groups vaccinated.

“For the pandemic to end we must rapidly scale up vaccinations equitably in all countries, including supporting vaccine production, as appropriate, and sharing of doses, as relevant, to protect the vulnerable population in every country.

“In addition, we must continue to follow the public health and social measures including testing, sequencing, tracing, isolation and quarantine. As well as hand washing and wearing a mask and maintaining physical distancing in places that are crowded, confined and closed.”

To help reduce the risk of being infected with the virus this summer, follow WHO/Europe’s #SummerSense practical measures.

Travel is not risk free. Travelling and mass gathering can increase your risk of getting and spreading COVID-19. If you want to travel, think about the need and assess your risks. Your decision counts for ending this pandemic. If you decide to travel and gather, do it safely:

  • Remember the 3 Ws – wear a mask, wash your hands and watch your distance.
  • Measure your risk door to door: from the moment you close the door of your place to the moment you open it again, assess step by step the risk you are exposed to and take the right precautions. Cleaning hands frequently, keeping a safe distance and wearing a mask are proven to protect you.
  • Avoid the 3 Cs; more than the travel itself, it is the place that matters. Settings that are Closed, Confined or Crowded, will put you at higher risk of being infected with COVID-19. Choose open, ventilated settings, keep at least 1 meter distance from others and wear your mask. In many settings it might be impossible to avoid all 3 Cs.
How data can support policies to protect, promote and support breastfeeding: Swedish experience
How data can support policies to protect, promote and support breastfeeding: Swedish experience

During World Breastfeeding Week, WHO/Europe highlights Sweden’s experience in gathering data to understand the reasons behind its declining breastfeeding rates. 2 online surveys conducted in 2020 in the region of Skåne showed that the local population is unaware of the health benefits breastfeeding gives for both the child and mother, and that infant feeding services need more coordination. This helped Swedish authorities to update local practices and reimplement WHO-recommended tools.

The best option for infant feeding

Sweden’s breastfeeding initiation and duration are relatively high in the WHO European Region, with a recorded initiation of 94% in 2018. However, in the same year only 11% of mothers met WHO’s standard recommendation of exclusive breastfeeding for the child’s first 6 months. Overall, there has been a recent decline of the breastfeeding levels since the 1990s and early 2000s.

In response, the Regional Council of the Swedish region of Skåne commissioned the Center of Excellence Women’s health and Child Health Services to develop a strategic plan to explore and address the negative trend in efforts to protect, promote and support breastfeeding.

“Breastfeeding is the best option for infant feeding,” said Clare Farrand, Technical Officer for Nutrition at the WHO European Office for the Prevention and Control of Noncommunicable Diseases (NCD Office). “It delivers emotional, nutritional and health benefits, such as protection against noncommunicable diseases such as heart disease and cancer to both children and mothers. It also forms part of a sustainable food system.”

Reasons behind numbers

In order to better understand the situation in Sweden, 2 surveys were administered; one aimed to evaluate the current status of breastfeeding in health facilities and the second survey aimed to explore breastfeeding attitudes and knowledge among the local population and to gain a deeper understanding about the underlying factors that influence whether and how Scanian women choose to breastfeed.

The surveys found the following.

  • Widespread uncertainty remains about the health benefits for both the child and mother. 99% of the respondents agree that breastfeeding is natural, but only 3 out of 10 are aware that it reduces the risk of breast cancer.
  • Currently, there is no regional coordinating body to support breastfeeding in Skåne. Health workers who completed the survey reported that they feel that written breastfeeding and infant feeding policies they can refer to are insufficient. In addition, counselling on breastfeeding is categorized as low priority in newborn care.
  • Violations of the International Code of Marketing of Breast-milk Substitutes are common in healthcare facilities. 91% of nurses working in child health care services reported being contacted by representatives from the baby food industry during the last year. 80% of them were given free formula samples to distribute to families.
  • There is a need to assess and strengthen staff competency. Since pre-service education, only 32% of respondents completed further training in breastfeeding counselling, and the majority considered themselves in need of further training on how to counsel women to breastfeed.

WHO tools and best practice solutions

The presence of baby food companies in Swedish health care facilities has urged the Regional Council to implement best practice and put into place a rigorous monitoring and evaluation process. To protect breastfeeding, the regional pay-provider contract was revised from 1 January 2021 to include a commitment for all facilities providing antenatal care and child health services to fully comply with the International Code.

“We have felt the need for urgent reimplementation of the Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative (BFHI), which was implemented in the early 90s but has not been comprehensively evaluated since,” said Anna Kjellbom, General Practitioner from the Center of Excellence Women’s health, Regional Council of Skåne. “To promote breastfeeding, raising awareness about the health benefits of breastfeeding among the population should be a public health priority. Educating both healthcare workers and parents would encourage an overall positive attitude towards breastfeeding and have far-reaching benefits for families and the community.”

The NCD Office supports all countries in the Region in scaling up implementation of the Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative, strengthening the International Code of Marketing of Breast-milk Substitutes, as well as improving health literacy and surveillance of breastfeeding practices.

The NCD Office also hosts a regular webinar series ‘Promoting, protecting and supporting breastfeeding in the WHO European Region’, focusing on contemporary public health, clinical and physiological aspects of breastfeeding, human milk and lactation. The series is designed to provide information to Member States to improve their evidence-based advocacy as well as policy design and programme implementation efforts.

12 Cook Island Women Publish A Book About Their Lives In Tokoroa
12 Cook Island Women Publish A Book About Their Lives In Tokoroa

A new book is being launched in Tokoroa during Cook Island Language Week.

Te Kinakina: E Ngara I te Ngari, Remember who you are and where you come from is the result of a series of creative writing workshops led by poet Vaughan Rapatahana and facilitated by South Waikato Pacific Island Community Services (SWPICS) with support from the Ministry of Education and Read NZ Te Pou Muramura.

The project is part of Read NZ Te Pou Muramura’s Writers in Communities programme, which aims to nurture new readers and writers within a community and help share their stories widely.

The Cooks comprise 15 islands in the Pacific, each represented on the flag with a star. It’s said that Tokoroa is the sixteenth star.

In Te Kinakina: E Ngara I te Ngari, Remember who you are and where you come from, twelve contributors detail why their families initially travelled to Tokoroa and candidly describe their varied life experiences in South Waikato.

The book opens with introductions by Papa Timote Turu and editor Vaughan Rapatahana, and the stories are illustrated with colour photographs.

These elements combine to create an illuminating account of Pasifika life in Aotearoa and confirm the authors’ communal commitment to kōpu tangata, family, home, church and each other.

The anthology’s editor Vaughan Rapatahana says it’s an important book for two reasons.

“For the first time, it sets out in detail the experiences of Cook Islands women living in Tokoroa, and their combined stories express many emotions, portray many events, and display several consistent themes.

“I feel privileged to have edited this collection,” says Rapatahana.

SWPICS CEO Akarere Henry, who is also one of the contributing authors, says the writing project and resulting anthology are very special to the community.

“We see it as a realisation of some of the aspirations and dreams of our community. We’re so grateful and proud to be able to share our stories in this way,” she says.

Te Kinakina: E Ngara I te Ngari, Remember who you are and where you come from will be available, in limited edition, from all good bookshops and libraries.

The book will be launched at 1 pm on Tuesday, August 3 at South Waikato Pacific Islands Community Services Trust in Tokoroa.

Albania repatriates Islamic State women, children despite controversy - Vatican News
Albania repatriates Islamic State women, children despite controversy – Vatican News

By Stefan J. Bos

After a long wait, five Albanian women and 14 children arrived in Albania from Syria’s notorious Al Hol camp.

The women had joined Islamic extremist groups fighting in Syria and Iraq. Flying from Lebanon, they were accompanied by Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama and Interior Minister Bledi Cuci.In a statement, Rama called it “a very positive event” and pledged that in his words, “We shall not stop here.”

He made clear that the 19 women and children will be taken to a shelter in the western port city of Durres. There, police and social experts are making medical and psychological examinations. That is to be followed by a quarantine period, after which some may be allowed to rejoin their families.

Rama did not reveal whether the women would be prosecuted for possible war crimes and other atrocities. Sunday’s transportation of the women and children was the third effort to repatriate Albanians from the war-torn territories in Syria. In October last year, five Albanians were repatriated, while a child returned to the country a year earlier.

Authorities believe a few hundred Albanian men joined the Islamic State and other groups fighting in Syria and Iraq in the early 2010s. Many were killed, and their wives and children are stuck in Syrian camps.

Europe watching

The Albanian case is watched by other European nations, such as the Netherlands, which is repatriating some women and children, despite criticism from several legislators.

One of the Dutch women held by Kurdish forces in Syria is Islamic State bride Hafidi. She was in tears when speaking in her tent recently about her hopes for a better future. “Me, if I go to prison, I take the consequences for what I did. But for my children, it is no life here in the camp, almost two years not. I am crying.”

She said what she did “was stupid.” But Haifida declined to condemn Islamic State, citing security concerns. Repatriating her and others remains controversial, with critical European legislators fearing they could undermine security in Europe, where punishments may be more lenient than in the Middle East.

However, several European governments oppose trials in the Middle East as especially former Islamic State group supporters, including
women may face the death penalty there.

After the outbreak of war in Syria in 2011, many Europeans joined Islamic State. As a result, the Islamic State group controlled 88,000 square kilometers (34,000 square miles) of land stretching across Syria and Iraq at its height.

But after they were declared territorially defeated in the region in March 2019, mothers and children were moved to camps and thousands of others displaced. Concerned about security risks and a political backlash, some European governments are reluctant to repatriate all their citizens from the camps despite appeals from rights groups.

LAGUNA NIGUEL, CALIFORNIA, USA, July 31, 2021 /EINPresswire.com/ — On July 28 2021, the world was introduced to a USA Olympic swimmer by the name of Michael Andrew. Although present at the opening ceremony of the 2021 Olympics in Tokyo Japan, it wasn’t until Wednesday night, July 28 2021, that the world saw this remarkably talented swimmer. We at EZ Pools have had the privilege to help Michael become the amazing swimmer he is ultimately destined to be.

In the winter of 2008, EZ Pools received a call from a desperate mother in Aberdeen South Dakota. “There are only two 25 meter indoor pools in this area.” Tina Andrew explained to us over the phone. “One of them is controlled by a competiting team and the other is open to the public, but every time we try to practice, some one jumps in the lane.” She continued to explain that her and her husband, Peter, quickly recognized their oldest son was a very gifted swimmer – but they had no way to support his talent. Tina in her own right, was a very successful athlete and was a fixture on the UK TV show “Gladiators.” Peter, her husband, had been a successful swimmer in the South African Navy. So it was in Michael’s blood.

“How can we help?” We offered. Tina went on to explain that they were looking at an old warehouse that had been used as a dance club. “If we gut the whole building and give you the measurements, can you make a pool to fit?” She asked. The answer is always of course. Every EZ Pool is made to order, which is why we offer so many different options. So they got busy gutting, we got busy making and kept busy building. In the span of two months, in the dead of winter, The Andrew family opened their very own swim club – The Aberdeen Aquaholics. And boy did Michael make it worth the investment.

With an indoor, heated, 25 yard pool at his disposal, Michael got busy. A year later he set 12 national records in the 10-under age group. “He’s a very gifted athlete, ” Peter Andrew said. “Right away when we started, I could see he had talent. He’s a real blessing.” Even other coaches could quickly recognize true atheletic genius in the making. “He’s a very gifted child,” said Trevor Layden a coach for another team who later become one of Michael Adnrew’s coaches. “He’s got a great ethic. I saw him break a couple of national records…he’s gotten just that much better as he’s gone on.” And EZ Pools was there to make it possible.

The Andrew family moved to Lawrence Kansas in mid 2012. The bought a rather large estate that had plenty of room for a new pool. Rather than build a pool to fit, they designed eactly the pool they needed and built the building around it. And once again, they turned to EZ Pools for the perfect training pool.

The most common question we get is about flip turns, “Can an EZ Pool support flip turns by professional athletes?” Yes of course, but the Andrew family discovered a unique advantage. Because an EZ Pool is soft-sided, the wall absorbs some of the kicking energy a swimmer exerts when pushing off. Michael discovered this early on and quickly went to work building up his leg muscles. As a result, he had a greater push off in hard-sided concrete competition pools than his competitors. Did this help him achieve early successes? Hard to say truly other than Michael has always proved to be a very gifted and determined athlete.

Tina and Peter spoke with us in length about the pool they needed. It was different than any other pool we had made at that time. Marked for both 25 yeard and 25 meter, with a little extar room on both ends to allow for rigid bulkheads to be installed. “Why?” We asked Peter. “We need more exact timing and the rigid surface more mimics concrete pools.” Very true and at basically 1/10th the cost of a concrete pool.

Michael earned a scholarship in a University in California, so the family packed up a moved again. But rtaher than waste their investment, we helped broker a deal with a small non-profit swim club in Kansas that bought the pool and equipment from the Andrew Family. “We were on a very tight budget,” said Melvin Nemechek, one the founders of the swim club. “This purchase saved us so much money, we could buy a smaller additional pool from EZ Pools for a smalelr kids to train in.”
May the legacy of Michael’s untiring dedication to the sport inspire their swimmers to excel, as well as others. Learn More About EZ Pools at www.4ezpool.com.

Migrants from Africa, Asia and South America boost evangelism in Europe

A new report from European Christian Mission finds that migrant Christians from South America, Asia and Africa are boosting evangelism in Europe.

Europe 2021 – A Missiological Report is authored by Jim Memory, a member of the ECM international leadership team and lecturer in European mission at All Nations Christian College in England, Christian Today reports.

“In many ways, Christianity is what made Europe,” says the report.

“No other continent has been exposed to Christianity for such a prolonged period and in such an extensive way,” it says.

“Yet just as Europe was the first continent to be Christianized, it was also the first to be de-Christianized.”

The 50-page document published in July seeks to address the major trends in Europe shaping the context for Christian mission in the continent.

‘CULTURAL CHRISTIANITY’

Memory writes: “Europe is perhaps the greatest challenge in world mission today. Most Europeans appear to have been inoculated against the Gospel by the vaccine of cultural Christianity.

“However, I believe the weakness of the Church is also God’s opportunity.

“More than ever before, European Christians are collaborating, networking, and planting churches together, and into that mix, God has brought the vitality of Christians from the Majority World.”

The report says Europe may be the greatest challenge in world mission today.

“Most Europeans appear to have been inoculated against the gospel by the vaccine of cultural Christianity,” writes Memory.

“However, I believe the weakness of the Church is also God’s opportunity. More than ever before, European Christians are collaborating, networking, and planting churches together, and into that mix, God has brought the vitality of Christians from the Majority World.”

He notes that Latin-American migrants have planted thousands of churches in Spain, Portugal and elsewhere over the last 30 years.

“It is difficult to find a major European city that does not have a large Spanish speaking and/or Brazilian congregation,” writes Memory.

Chinese churches “can be found almost everywhere,” he explains.

“The Chinese Overseas Christian Mission lists over 120 Chinese-speaking congregations in the UK and a further 150 in the rest of Europe, though that is certainly only a fraction of the actual churches that exist,” says Memory.

AFRICAN-INITIATED PENTECOSTAL CHURCHES IN UK

It is the black African churches that are the “most numerous,” with thousands of African-initiated Pentecostal churches in Britain alone, the report notes.

The Redeemed Christian Church of God has over 750 congregations today and is planting around 25 new churches in Britain every year. More churches belong to the Church of Pentecost, Christ Embassy and Christ Apostolic Tabernacle.

“If you have an African population in your city, there will almost certainly be an African diaspora church, even if you are not aware of it,” notes Memory.

The report outlines the how mission can face challenges due to de-Christianization of Europe over the last half millennium.

It says, “Of course, some parts of Africa and Asia saw Christianity become dominant and then lose that dominance to Islam long before any European country became thoroughly evangelized.

“The difference is, whereas during the first 1,500 years of Christian history, de-Christianization was the result of the loss of ‘Christian lands’ to invaders, the de-Christianization of Europe over the last 500 years has occurred from within.”

Memory writes at the end, “Nevertheless, the Parable of the Sower (Matt. 13; Mark 4; Luke 8) points to the importance of the soil (the context) for the reception of the gospel message and the propagation of the Kingdom of God.

“Though Europe’s soil today might appear arid and unyielding, the seed of the Kingdom is being sown and will produce fruit. Our task is to sow. (Galatians 6:9).”

Rev. Frank Hinkelmann, president of the European Evangelical Alliance says “Jim Memory’s missiological report starts by providing an excellent overview of the general and the spiritual context Christians are facing in Europe.”

He says it considers the COVID-19 pandemic, before moving on to trends in European mission and the implications for mission in Europe.

“This paper should be a must-read for all those interested in missions in and to Europe,” says Hinkelmann.

Langham Partnership’s Dr Chris Wright called the report “timely” and “essential reading for all those who, in any part of the world, are concerned about mission in, from and to, the continent of Europe”.

“Thoroughly documented from secular sources and theological expertise, this is the kind of resource that is increasingly needed for intelligent Christian engagement in our alarmingly changed world,” he said.

Rev Israel Oluwole Olofinjana, Director of the Evangelical Alliance’s One People Commission, said: “Reverse missionaries and indigenous missionaries will find this report very helpful for understanding the European scene in order to contextualise their mission.”

Khomeini’s fatwa: any political prisoners who “remain steadfast in their support for the MEK are waging war on God and are condemned to execution.”

— NCRI

PARIS, FRANCE, July 31, 2021 /EINPresswire.com/ — The National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), reported that on June 18, the Iranian regime appointed a notorious violator of human rights as its next president. Ebrahim Raisi has played a key role in a historic massacre of political prisoners, serving on the “death commission” tasked with implementing then Supreme leader Rohullah Khomeini’s fatwa against the main opposition, the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK).The MEK was the prime target of the massacre between July and September of 1988, and it comprised the overwhelming majority of 30,000 political prisoners who were massacred during that period.

The death toll has naturally never been confirmed by Iranian authorities. Indeed, they have made every effort to cover up the details of the massacre in the ensuing three decades, by paving over and building upon the mass graves in which many victims are secretly interred. But contemporary evidence, including communications among the regime officials, make the MEK’s own estimates inherently plausible.

On July 31, 1988, with the massacre in full swing, Hossein Ali Montazeri, then the heir to the supreme leader, wrote to Khomeini in order to protest the indiscriminate nature of the killings, both on moral grounds and on the grounds that continuing along that path would inevitably foster greater resentment against the clerical regime both at home and abroad. In that letter, Montazeri appealed to the supreme leader to at least direct death commissions to “spare women with children.” He then suggested that in absence of such restraint, the effects of the ongoing proceedings could include “the execution of several thousand prisoners in a few days.”

This appears to be exactly what happened in the wake of Khomeini’s decision to ignore the first letter and then reply to a follow-up by writing only, “I am religiously responsible for the said verdict. You should not be concerned. May God obliterate every one of the MEK.” This remark was hardly more extreme than the language of the fatwa itself, which decreed that any political prisoners who “remain steadfast in their support for the MEK are waging war on God and are condemned to execution.”

The fatwa concluded by stating that it is “naïve to show mercy” to its targets and that the bodies tasked with carrying out the executions “must not hesitate, nor show any doubt or be concerned about details” of the decree’s implementation. This point was reiterated in Khomeini’s reply to an early request for clarification from Chief Justice Moussavi Ardebili.

Whereas the head of the judiciary questioned whether capital punishment should be meted out to persons who had already received lesser sentences and had committed no further crime, the supreme leader merely commanded Ardebili to “annihilate the enemies of Islam immediately,” then declared that in each individual case, the judiciary’s procedure should be whatever most “speeds up the implementation of the verdict.”

Khomeini’s letters to Ardebili and Montazeri directly contradict the descriptions of the proceedings that some Iranian officials have offered in recent years. In an interview with Fars News on August 4, 2016, for instance, a judiciary official named Ali Razini insisted that all of the executions were justified not just on the basis of the defendants’ membership in the MEK but also on the basis of unspecified crimes.

While Razini acknowledged that many prisoners were executed in the summer of 1988 after serving out lesser sentences, he proceeded to claim that all of them were guilty of “new crimes” either committed while in prison or committed earlier and discovered after the fact.

By all accounts, most regime authorities believed that any statement or the mere suggestion of continued support for the MEK was, in effect, a “new crime.” In one of his letters from the time of the massacre, Montazeri pointed out that some political prisoners had been asked to condemn the MEK and to affirm their willingness to fight in the war with Iraq, and had complied in both cases.

But some were then confronted with follow-up questions about whether they would be willing to walk through minefields on behalf of the supreme leader. Anything less than enthusiastic acceptance of that scenario was generally deemed to be evidence that the subject was still holding onto MEK political beliefs, and was grounds for execution.

In July 2017, Ali Fallahian, Iran’s Intelligence Minister in the period immediately following the massacre, gave an interview with state television in which he defended other, similarly arbitrary statements and behaviors that were deemed by the death commissions to be justification for capital punishment.

When challenged by the interviewer about whether anyone had been killed simply for being in possession of a MEK newspaper at the time of their arrest, Fallahian proudly answered in the affirmative. Such reading material, he explained, meant that the person in question was “part of that organization” and thus part of the population targeted by the fatwa.

The former Intelligence Minister went on to say that even buying bread to share with MEK activists could be grounds for execution. Such statements should leave no doubt about the fact that the 1988 massacre was specifically intended to wipe out the country’s leading Resistance group in its entirety. Then again, there should never have been any doubt on this point, since that intention was made clear by the fatwa itself, and especially by Khomeini’s follow-ups to it.

Even though the regime has attempted to cover-up the details of the massacre, officials have never been overly cautious about acknowledging its true intentions. Whatever caution they did hold seems to have evaporated since 2016, the year Montazeri’s son released an audio recording of the late ayatollah’s 1988 conversation with the members of the “death commission”, in which he condemned their participation in the “worst crime of the Islamic Republic.”

In August of that year, an official statement by the regime’s Assembly of Experts praised Khomeini’s fatwa for being “decisive and uncompromising” and for supposedly bringing the MEK “to the brink of complete annihilation.” Mostafa Pourmohammadi, then Iran’s Justice Minister and a former member of the death commissions himself, told state media that it was “God’s command” for the MEK to be executed and that those who carried out the mass killings were “proud” to do so.

The following month, the fatwa’s assertion that MEK members were “enemies of God” was reiterated by Ahmad Jannati, the head of the Guardian Council. Religious duty, he argued, “commands that we amputate their hands and legs, exile them, hang them.”

The Guardian Council would go on, in 2021, to exercise its vetting power in order to remove all viable candidates for the Iranian presidency other than Ebrahim Raisi, the man who had been appointed to lead the Judiciary in 2019 by Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, as part of an ongoing series of rewards for those who helped to carry out the 1988 massacre.

Raisi’s ascension to the presidency reinforces the culture of impunity surrounding the 1988 massacre and other crimes against humanity, but it also threatens to bring even more attention to the massacre than Montazeri’s recording did in 2016. However, it is the moral and humanitarian responsibility of the international community to respond in a more assertive and coordinated fashion this time around, so as to bring accountability to Iran’s new president, Ebrahim Raisi, and those who have faced no consequences for this crime after more than 30 years.

Alliance for Public Awareness – ICE 1988 Massacre of Political Prisoners In Iran – A Crime Against Humanity

Caritas Oceania: united by faith and the ocean - Vatican News
Caritas Oceania: united by faith and the ocean – Vatican News

By Linda Bordoni

The highly diverse members of the Caritas Oceania family are from the larger and smaller islands of the Pacific Ocean, united in faith and in their dependence on the ocean – their livelihood and their home. The 2021 annual meeting was inspired by Pope Francis’ encyclical “Fratelli tutti” and took place in the name fraternity.

The organization’s new President is Cardinal Soane Patita Paini Mafi from Tonga. Speaking to Vatican Radio’s Linda Bordoni, he highlighted two the main issues tackled during the Forum: the effects of climate change on the region and its people, and of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Listen to the interview with Cardinal Mafi

“Environmental protection, care for our common home is always a top priority in Oceania,” Cardinal Mafi explained, pointing out that “one of our main treasures is the ocean”, the main source of the people’s livelihoods as well as our home.

Climate change, he said, increasingly causes natural disasters, and in the region that has always been affected by monsoons, tropical cyclones and other extreme weather patterns, has resulted in huge number of people being dramatically affected.

Diversity and unity

Caritas Oceania brings together Caritas Australia, Caritas Papua New Guinea, Caritas Samoa, Caritas Aotearoa-New Zealand, Caritas Pacific Islands (CEPAC) and Caritas Tonga.

“They have much in common,” Cardinal Mafi said, “but they are also very diverse.”

They are diverse, he explained, because they are home to different ethnic groups, especially within the Polynesian and Micronesian areas, “ so we are so rich in that way with our diversity in culture.”

But they also have much in common, he added, “A common shared reality: we are all in this vast ocean, the Pacific, and I think the faith element is a strong element of our communality.”

The Cardinal explained that the vast majority of Oceania’s inhabitants are Christians, about a third of them Catholic.

A collective effort

So, he continued, the annual Forum is “a special time when we come together” – the seven different Caritas offices that make the Caritas Oceania Family – “to show the varieties of experiences and the way we handle or cope with these common issues of environmental disasters – cyclones and storms. So when we come together, we try to search for a collective effort in spite of our differences.”

The Forum, he explained, concluded with the endorsement of our Caritas Oceania regional advocacy strategy with priorities focusing on environmental protection but also on women and youth.

“We are split and scattered by the ocean, but we must find ways to tackle our issues, so the theme this year was “Fraternal cooperation in our Caritas Oceania Family”, a precious occasion, he said, to “come together to build on this spirit of fraternity and to listen.

Cardinal Mafi pointed out that despite the huge geographical distances that separate the members, the “Fratelli tutti” message has been received by everyone.

“It is quite inspiring to hear how the encyclical has reached so many” but one of the challenges, he added, is to translate it into the local vernacular:  we need good translators so that people can properly understand the message.

Covid-19

Cardinal Mafi said the current coronavirus pandemic has affected the region, especially from the tourism and economic perspective. The health emergency, he said, has been mitigated by the collaborative work of Caritas and Catholic Relief Services that have managed to help enormously with putting protective measures into place, and providing equipment and sanitizers throughout the islands, where, he notes, the virus could destroy indigenous peoples and cultures.

“It is amazing to see and learn how that partnership has been helping the most vulnerable and remote communities, supplying them with all that is necessary,” he said.

“We share these bleak and gloomy times in history with Covid-19,” the Cardinal concluded, “but the inspiration from Fratelli tutti gives us a new way of looking at our lives,  showing kindness to one another in a spirit of fraternity: we need to love, to get back to basics, to family units, and build up love from there.”

Mercenaries and Related Private Contractors Must Leave Libya to Pave Way for Peace, Elections - UN Experts
Mercenaries and Related Private Contractors Must Leave Libya to Pave Way for Peace, Elections – UN Experts

Download logo
UN experts* today called for all mercenaries and mercenary-related private contractors to leave Libya, saying their departure is long overdue, and is a vital precondition to peaceful elections scheduled for later this year.

“Nine months after the ceasefire agreement calling for withdrawal of foreign forces and mercenaries from Libya, mercenaries and private military and security contractors continue to operate in the country,” said Jelena Aparac, chair of the UN’s Working Group on the use of mercenaries.

“Their continued recruitment and presence in Libya impedes progress in the peace process and constitutes an obstacle for the upcoming elections.”

Well-trained and well-armed private contractors from Russia, Syria, Sudan and Chad operating in Libya, some of whom meet the criteria for mercenaries, could also negatively affect the security and stability of other countries in the region, the experts warned.

The experts stressed that these mercenary and mercenary-related actors must leave immediately, and there must be an immediate end to the transfer of military weapons and materiel into Libya.

“We appeal to the international community to take concrete steps to aid this process,” Aparac said.

In the UN-facilitated Libyan Political Dialogue Forum, participants agreed on a roadmap to credible, inclusive and democratic national elections, to be held on 24 December 2021.

“If elections are to be held in December 2021 as scheduled, Libyans should be able to undertake that process in a safe and secure environment, and the presence of these actors impedes that,” Aparac said.

In June 2020, the UN Working Group warned that reliance on mercenaries and related actors since 2019 had contributed to escalation of the conflict in Libya and undermined the peace process, which was a breach of the existing arms embargo imposed by the UN Security Council. At that time, they urged governments to investigate all allegations of human rights violations and humanitarian law violations.

“A year on, and looking forward to elections, we remain concerned that any political process aiming to establish sustainable peace has to include a genuine commitment to human rights,” the experts said. “There must be real accountability for abuses committed by mercenaries, mercenary-related actors, and private contractors.”

Hooked On Books: The Greatest Teacher Of All Time
Hooked On Books: The Greatest Teacher Of All Time

When August approaches, it often signifies that summer is coming to a close and a new school year is upon us. As we reflect back upon the last year of teaching during a pandemic, it’s clear that teachers play a vital role in shaping the minds of our children. Although there is still much unknown for this school year, we do know that teachers are essential to creating the opportunities for all children to reach their full potential.

Great teachers have the ability to change lives. They can act as a support system, role model, coach, inspiration and counselor. As Christians, we follow Jesus as our savior and also as a teacher. In the New Testament, the title of ‘Teacher’ is applied to Jesus 39 times. His message spoke to the hearts of people and He skillfully used illustrations, parables and questions to teach His followers. If Jesus is considered the Great Teacher, we must acknowledge that teachers are truly a gift from God.

Proverbs 22:6 tells us, “Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it.” To all the students, teachers and families in our community, have a prosperous and blessed school year.

International Organization for Migration (IOM) and Partners Host Regional Workshop on Border Management and Security in Cairo
International Organization for Migration (IOM) and Partners Host Regional Workshop on Border Management and Security in Cairo

Download logo
The Ministry of Interior of Egypt in partnership with Naif Arab University for Security Sciences (NAUSS), the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and UN Office of Counterterrorism (UNOCT) hosted a high-level regional training workshop on the use of biometrics and traveler information to enhance border security capacities. The three-day workshop was hosted by the Ministry of Interior’s Police Academy in Cairo between 27 to 29 July 2021 and chaired by General Dr. Ahmed Ibrahim Assistant Minister of Interior and President of the Police Academy as well as Mr. Khalid bin Abdulaziz Alharfash NAUSS Vice President for External Relations.

This workshop, which is part of existing partnership cooperation between NAUSS, IOM and UNOCT and the host government Egypt, gathered 55 senior Ministry of Interior officials from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Republic of Tunisia, the Kingdom of Bahrain, the Union of the Comoros, the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, the Arab Republic of Egypt, the Republic of Yemen and the Republic of the Sudan. Representatives of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), the Office of Information and Communications Technology (OICT), the International Air Transport Association (IATA), the Austrian Institute of Technology (AIT) and Governments of Egypt and Belgium shared and exchanged their expertise with the delegates.

“IOM is committed to the principle that humane and orderly migration benefits migrants, governments and society alike: it is therefore essential that we avail our expertise and support to governments in securing borders while facilitating regular, safe and rights-based mobility” said Mrs. Carmela Godeau, IOM MENA Regional Director. “As an intergovernmental body enjoying nearly global presence, IOM works with its partners in the international community, especially its UN sister agencies, to assist in meeting the operational challenges of migration in full respect of human rights.”

“This event is an excellent example of governments, regional institution (NAUSS) and the UN organizations working together, in their complementary roles and capacities, to proffer solutions to common global challenges of border security. The discussions as well as the workshop objectives are guided by relevant global frameworks, including SDG 2030 agenda.” added Kristiina Lilleorg, IOM MENA’s Senior Regional Thematic Specialist for immigration and border management

The objective of the workshop was to exchange experiences between Arab law enforcement and security services, international organizations and industry representatives to enhance border security against the relevant UN Security Council resolutions and other international law, while facilitating regular and safe cross-border mobility. The workshop highlighted challenges and great opportunities offered by Advance Passenger Information (API)/ Passenger Name Record (PNR) implementation as well as solutions, such as the legal and operational practices, inter-agency and international cooperation, systems inter-operability and cooperation with air carrier industry. The workshop also proffered solutions in use of biometrics in border management. A common theme throughout the 3-day workshop was that of cooperation in enhancing border security: with and between governments and with international organizations, availing their technical support.

In the MENA region, IOM enjoys comprehensive engagement with governments in the field of immigration and border management. The programming covers community policing initiatives, humanitarian border management and border management information systems, identity management, search and rescue, counter-migrant-smuggling and a growing number of governments in the region are exchanging expertise and experience with IOM toward enhanced migration management. Joint regional expert initiatives are a new focus of cooperation: today’s regional event follows NAUSS-IOM-ICAO joint online workshop late 2020 on the Traveller Identification Programme, gathering delegates from all Arab League Member States.

For maps of these fishing locations and other angling destinations in Idaho please visit the Idaho Fish Planner. To learn more about high alpine lake fishing, check out our “Alpine Lakes Fishing” website.

Many of the waters highlighted below are easy to access, family-friendly fishing destinations. All you need to get started is a fishing license and some basic tackle. Annual adult fishing licenses cost around $30, junior licenses (ages 14-17) cost $16, and youth under 14 fish for free. Click here to buy a license.

Fishing for stocked rainbow trout, particularly in community ponds, is a great way to introduce new anglers to the sport by using simple (and relatively thrifty) set-ups like worm/marshmallow combinations or commercial baits like Power Bait or Crave, either near the bottom or below a bobber. The Learn to Fish webpage offers diagrams for basic bait rigs.

Most Idaho waters are open to fishing year-round, but some may have slightly different rules. Be sure to pick up a 2019-21 Idaho Fishing Seasons and Rules Booklet, which outlines season dates, special regulations and bag limits at any Idaho Fish and Game offices or most sporting goods stores statewide.

‘Hate America, Inc.’: Mark Levin’s new book sold ‘eye-popping’ 565,000 copies in 2 weeks

Having sold more than 565,000 copies in just two weeks, Mark Levin’s “American Marxism” sits atop the New York Times bestseller list and is No. 2 on Amazon.

Levin begins with a wakeup call:

Mark Levin

“The counterrevolution to the American Revolution is in full force. And it can no longer be dismissed or ignored, for it is devouring our society and culture, swirling around our everyday lives, and ubiquitous in our politics, schools, media, and entertainment. Once a mostly unrelatable, fringe, and subterranean movement, it is here — and it is everywhere.…

“The counterrevolution or movement of which I speak is Marxism.”

The book has an entire chapter devoted to “Hate America, Inc.”

In it, Levin explains the long history of those who have openly pushed the Marxist agenda in America’s colleges and universities. He writes that the “progressive intellectuals of the late 1800s” were hostile “toward capitalism and the constitutional-republican system that established barriers against tyrannies of various kinds, including that which is born from the mob or centralized autocracy — and, of course, what would become known as progressivism.”

Just prior to the publication of Levin’s book, America had just passed through the traditional July 4 holiday. Levin’s description of the results generated by “Hate America, Inc” was on vivid display. The headline on the July 6 New York Post was nothing if not a confirmation of Levin’s point. It read:

Red, White and Woke

July 4th Weekend Became Liberal Bashfest of USA

The Post wrote: “Liberal politicians and commentators took special joy in celebrating July 4th by denouncing America. The Statue of Liberty was not a symbol of freedom but a symbol of hypocrisy. The flag was polarizing. The national anthem doesn’t speak for everyone (or anyone).”

Levin concludes “American Marxism” by addressing the reader directly:

“In the end, it is up to you to decide how best to help actively save our republic and what role you will choose…. While this is the end of the book, it is the beginning of a new day.”

While the corporate media ignores Levin’s blockbuster book, here’s some perspective:

An author usually has to sell 3,000 to 5,000 books to be a bestseller. Levin’s publisher, Threshold Editions, was so confident that “American Marxism” would be Levin’s seventh straight New York Times bestseller, they printed up over 1 million copies.

India, China to Hold 12th Round of Talks Tomorrow
India, China to Hold 12th Round of Talks Tomorrow

By   —  Shyamal Sinha

The 12th round of Corps Commander level talks between India and China will be held in Moldo on the Chinese side of the Line of Actual Control (LAC) around 10:30 am on Saturday. India and China expected to discuss disengagement from the Hot Springs and Gogra Heights areas.

India and China held a virtual meeting of the Working Mechanism for Consultation and Coordination (WMCC) on border affairs last month as part of the dialogue process to resolve the standoff.

In the meeting, the two sides agreed to hold the next round of military talks at an early date to achieve the objective of complete disengagement in the remaining friction points in eastern Ladakh. “You would recall that the 22nd meeting of the Working Mechanism for Consultation and Coordination (WMCC) on the border was held on June 25. The two sides also agreed to hold the 12th round of senior commanders meeting at an early date. We will certainly share any update once we have that,” Bagchi said. The 11th round of Corps Commander-level talks between the two sides on the border row was held on April 9. India and China were locked in a military standoff at multiple friction points in eastern Ladakh since early May last year. However, the two sides completed the withdrawal of troops and weapons from the North and South banks of Pangong lake in February following a series of military and diplomatic talks.

The two countries have been engaged in a military standoff for almost a year. However, the two sides disengaged from the most contentious Pangong Lake area last month after extensive talks at the military and political levels.

The two sides are now engaged in talks to extend the disengagement process to the remaining friction points. There was no visible forward movement in disengagement of troops in the remaining friction points as the Chinese side did not show flexibility in their approach on it at the 11th round of military talks.

Last month, Army Chief Gen MM Naravane said that there can be no de-escalation without complete disengagement at all friction points in eastern Ladakh and that the Indian Army is prepared for all contingencies in the region. Gen Naravane also said that India is dealing with China in a “firm” and “non-escalatory” manner to ensure the sanctity of its claims in eastern Ladakh and that it was even open to initiating confidence-building measures.

China has been enhancing military infrastructure across the LAC for some time now. Looking at it, India has changed its posture towards China, and unlike its previous defensive approach that placed a premium on fending on Chinese aggression, India is now catering military options to strike back and has reoriented its forces accordingly.

India has reoriented around 50,000 troops whose main focus is on the disputed borders with China.

The reorientation comes at a time when China is refurbishing its existing air-fields in the Tibetan Plateau that will allow twin-engine fighter aircraft to be stationed, sources said.

In addition, China has also also brought troops from the Tibet military region to the Xinjiang region.

“Victims´ Voices Lead the Way”: Awah Francisca Mbuli

After several years of sexual exploitation in Europe, Francisca returned to Cameroon desperate and destitute. There she was tricked by a trafficker who promised her a good job teaching English abroad. Instead, Francisca was exploited and abused as a domestic servant. “I almost sold my kidney to raise money to escape my abuser, she says. Francisca returned home only “to be stigmatized”.

Francisca is now a human rights advocate and through her Survivors’ Network, which is managed by survivors of human traffickingshe has helped more than 5,000 women and girls in Cameroon and worldwide to escape human trafficking and gender-based violence situations.

“I now educate my community and country to make them aware that human trafficking exists, and advise them on preventive measures,” she says. Through its outreach work, especially in rural areas, the Network aims to prevent women and children from falling prey to traffickers

“We visit communities, schools, churches and markets to conduct workshops. The majority of the people we speak to really believe what we are saying,” says Francisca. Some realise that they have been victims of domestic trafficking themselves or that their children are currently being exploited, she adds.

The Survivors’ Network provides victims with temporary or long-term shelter or accommodation in safe houses, where they also receive psychosocial support to help them be reintegrated into society. It also operates a programme of “economic empowerment” for survivors.

Following an assessment defining the needs of the victims, they are trained in groups. After their training, they are provided with the resources needed to start their own company. “With the skills these women acquire, many of them have successfully applied for jobs or now run their own businesses.

The inclusion of survivors in the development of anti-human trafficking policies is an important aspect that need to be considered by national governments and international organizationssays Francisca. Survivors who are speaking out like myself play an essential role in assisting other victims to leave their exploitative situations and even add their voices to make a change and combat this crime.

Francisca also stresses the need to support victims of human trafficking both economically and mentally to enable their participation in legal proceedings against their perpetrators. “Too often, survivors are neglected and in some cases the perpetrators go free while the survivors become the victims, she concludes.
