Whether you are a new hunter or a seasoned veteran, pheasant hunting opportunity in 2021 will not disappoint!
Sometimes it can be challenging to introduce the sport of hunting to a youth or an adult that has never hunted. Pheasant hunts are the perfect gateway opportunity as they are active, fun and often result in shooting opportunity and success. Get out and give it a try!
Statewide, youth ages 17 years and younger with anIdaho hunting licensecan participate in the youth-only pheasant hunt from Oct. 2-8 at 24 locations across the state.
They will need to be accompanied by a licensed adult that is 18 years or older, but they do not need anUpland Game Bird Permitto hunt where birds are stocked. All hunters must wearhunter orangeabove the waist while hunting during pheasant season.
Young hunters who have never had a hunting license and have not taken hunter education can still participate in the hunt through Idaho’sHunting Passport Program.
Approximately 50 pheasants will be stocked weekly at each WMA beginning the week of Oct. 3 and ending the week of Dec. 26 for a total of 700 pheasants at each WMA for the year.
Please note that at both locations there are small, naturalized pheasant populations. As such, it is possible hunters may encounter hen pheasant, which are illegal to harvest.
Located at the Idaho-British Columbia border, the Boundary-Smith Creek WMA is in the breathtaking Kootenai River Valley. The WMA is characterized by just over 2,000 acres of public land, and it includes both wetland, forested and upland habitat.
Grizzly bears often frequent the WMA, so hunters should be aware and carry bear spray or other bear deterrent.
All of the WMA is open to hunting, but there is no shooting allowed within 100 yards of the WMA headquarters located at the northeastern-most corner of the WMA.
For the youth hunt, pheasants will only be released in the northern field between the large wetland cell 3 and the Kootenai River, just south of the WMA headquarters (see map). After the youth hunt, all other releases will be scattered throughout the WMA.

The CDA River WMA is collection of land parcels along the CDA River from Rose Lake to CDA Lake. The WMA boasts over 8,500 acres of public land containing wetland, lake, upland and forested habitats.
Although the entire WMA is open to hunting, only the Lane Marsh parcel will be stocked. Hunters will need an Upland Bird Permit to hunt Lane Marsh parcel, but they can hunt without the permit if outside the Lane Marsh parcel.
Hunters are reminded that private lands are intermingled with CDA River WMA parcels, so know where you are at all times to avoid unintentionally trespassing. Also, a reminder that shooting from or across a roadway is unlawful.

Rules you need to know about pheasant hunting in the Panhandle Region
There are two rule sets for hunting pheasants. One rule set applies to hunting pheasant outside of the stocked areas, and the other rule set applies to hunting areas that are stocked by Fish and Game.
The two rule sets are the same, except for bag limit, shooting hours and permit requirements.
If hunting outside the boundaries of stocked areas, hunters can harvest a total of three cock pheasants a day, they can shoot one-half hour before sunrise to one-half hour after sunset and they do not need an Upland Game Bird Permit.
If hunting in the stocked areas, only two cock pheasants can be harvested a day, hunters can shoot from 10 a.m. PST to one-half hour after sunset and they need an Upland Game Bird Permit.
In the Panhandle, resident hunters ages 18 and older can begin hunting pheasant on Oct. 9 and can continue doing so until Dec. 31. Nonresident hunters can begin hunting on Oct. 14.

COOKSTOWN, NEW JERSEY, UNITED STATES , August 6, 2021 /EINPresswire.com/ — Despite the many events in history and breakthroughs in scientific progress, there is still so much to the sea that we don’t know much about–its seemingly endless bounty teeming with life, its amazing vastness, and everything it hides within its depth. Surely the tales of how people spend their lives constantly navigating these waters would both entertain and inspire awe. What stories would a man have for us given that his career was spent mostly in the waters? George Rhodes Worthington gives us just that as he looks back on his time in the US Navy in “Running with Frogs: A Naval Memoir“.Born in Louisville Kentucky in 1937, George Rhodes Worthington moved around a lot growing up and found himself joining the US Navy after his graduation from the US Naval Academy in 1961 where he received his Ensign Commission. His first tour was with the USS Halsey Powell, which allowed him to witness and experience first-hand the Christmas Island bomb tests in 1962. His love of the waters took him through a career spanning several tours of duty, holding positions of command and leadership, and even a bit of politics while working with the Pentagon. Worthington also found his passion for sporting activities and participated in the International Naval Pentathlon in Sweden and became a member of the Military Sport Council swimming competition in Barcelona.
“Running with Frogs: A Naval Memoir” gives its readers fresh insights on a man’s successful career in the military and captivating tales of having spent so much time in or around water. Readers are treated to Worthington’s career highlights, the ups and downs of his tours of duties, his passion for sports, and the challenges of political influence. Military and Civilians alike would share in the joys and the struggles of Worthington’s career and fondly look back on the memories he shares in this book, allowing a better appreciation for the men and women who serve this great nation.

P10™ Performance Athletes Andrea Nisler and Taylor Williamson Lead the Charge at the 2021 NOBULL Crossfit Games.
HOUSTON, TX, UNITED STATES, August 5, 2021 /EINPresswire.com/ — As fans and enthusiasts from around the globe gather once again in Madison WI, all eyes were on Team Mayhem Freedom as they looked to take home the Affiliate Cup victory back to its rightful home in Cookeville, TN. The team, captained by Rich Froning saw a roster of all new faces this year but that didn’t stop the dynamic foursome from securing their 6th Games Victory. Not only did the team win, they went on to amass a whopping 1237 points and beating their next closest competitors by 279 points, earning them the record for largest win margin in Crossfit Games team history. “Nothing quite beats the feeling of being back in Madison, in front of a packed coliseum. After a year of many unknowns and struggles for the entire community, it was amazing to get back out on the floor and show the world how hard we have been working this year. We have created a strong team, and we are proud of our efforts over the past week,” said Taylor Williamson of Team Mayhem Freedom. Andrea Nisler also added, “It takes a complete team effort to put together that type of performance over the course of the thirteen events. Things clicked very well for us starting from the first event on Thursday.”
“We are so excited to partner up with Andrea and Taylor and celebrate this tremendous win, “ said Nic Johnston, P10 Performance Brand Manager. “At P10 Performance our goal is to provide our athletes with the very best, no matter their goals. We have worked tirelessly to provide our athletes with a full line of performance products that aim to supply training support, supplemental needs, and overall recovery.”
After a year away from the Games on the team side of competition, the return to Madison was a special one not only for the spectators but the athletes as well. As the sport returns to its full form, we are extremely grateful to be a partner of this year’s NOBULL Crossfit Games. The Games atmosphere was back in full force and the sense of community was felt in every corner of the venue. This week was a huge step in the right direction for the progression of the sport, and we couldn’t be more proud to be growing alongside this global event.

We’re thrilled to announce our third virtual conversation in our Let’s Talk About Hanford Series, this time in collaboration with our friends at the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife.
Tune in 5:30 p.m. Aug. 25 on Facebook or WebEx for Let’s Talk About Hanford: Salmon, Sturgeon, and more.
For this third discussion, we’re going to explore the Columbia River in the Hanford Reach, and the many fish that can be found within. We’ll cover other Hanford habitat and wildlife in an event later this fall.
Paul Hoffarth, of the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife, will join this conversation as our featured guest. Hoffarth is the District 4 Fish Biologist, serving Benton and Franklin Counties, and has been working in the Tri-Cities since 2000. His primary duties include monitoring local fish populations, including sport fishery opportunities and harvest estimates.
Hoffarth will be joined by Ginger Wireman, Ryan Miller, and Daina McFadden from our agency’s Nuclear Waste Program communications team.
We will begin the evening with a presentation by Hoffarth about the Columbia River and fish in the Hanford Reach. Following the presentation, we’ll take your questions live!
Join the conversation
In our last event, we introduced options to stream on both Facebook and WebEx. We will keep these same options for this event.
For the Facebook livestream, watch live at the time of the event from our Hanford Facebook page or the Facebook event page.
To join the WebEx stream (audio and video):
Join by phone (audio only):
1-415-655-0001 US Toll
1-206-207-1700 United States Toll (Seattle)
Access Code: 177 640 0158
Event password: 84874547 (when joining by phone only)
Can’t attend the conversation on Aug. 25? The event recording will be available on our Facebook page and YouTube channel shortly after the stream ends. You can also submit your questions to us about the river and fish in the Hanford Reach in advance of the live event. We’ll make every effort to answer your submitted questions live during the Q&A session.
Beginning during World War II, Hanford produced plutonium for decades before shifting to a new mission in 1989 to clean up the massive amounts of waste and contamination that production left behind.
These conversations blend high-level easy-to-understand presentations and conversations with you about Hanford topics, ranging from specific cleanup projects and history of the site to the Hanford Reach habitat and wildlife that call it home.
We’re gearing these virtual discussions toward those unfamiliar with Hanford, those who want a refresher, or to expand existing knowledge about Hanford. We’ll start each event with a short high-level presentation on that day’s topic, followed by a live Q&A with those watching.
Have any questions or ideas for future conversations? Drop us a line, and we hope to see you virtually during our third livestream!

A Hall of Famer On and Off the Ice
While the name Gordie Howe is synonymous with hockey, it was his philanthropy off the ice that those who knew him found most inspiring. “From offering his compassion and time to support a wide variety of causes, to working with disabled children, Gordie was a powerful example of giving back to the community,” said Mark Howe. “Gordie believed that participating in sports could be a transformative experience for a young person, and he was committed to ensuring every child had the opportunity to play. We are committed to keeping that legacy alive and continuing to provide support to young athletes.”
Laying the Groundwork for Women in Professional Sports
As accomplished as Gordie Howe was on the ice, Colleen Howe was formidable off it, breaking barriers as a sports agent who founded Power Play International and Power Play Publications, managing the business interests of both her husband in addition to their sons Marty and Mark. Colleen was inducted into the US Hockey Hall of Fame for her work in youth hockey. Additionally, Colleen was one of the founders who brought the Junior Red Wings, the very first Junior A hockey team to the United States.
“My parents’ vision was one of equitable inclusion, and one that provided opportunities for women to pursue careers in professional sports,” said Howe. “If the Howe Foundation can contribute even a small percentage to the future success of today’s youth through our annual scholarship program, it would really warm their hearts and make my parents proud.”
Since its founding in 1994, the Howe Foundation has donated more than $125,000 in monetary and in-kind donations to charities across the United States and Canada.
About the Howe Foundation Founded in 1994 by Gordie and Colleen Howe, the Howe Foundation’s vision is to assist those in need to be able to participate and enjoy the game of hockey. RALEIGH, N.C. (August 4, 2021) – The N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission is partnering with Cube Yadkin Generation LLC, an affiliate of Eagle Creek Renewable Energy and owner and operator of the Yadkin Project, to increase fisheries habitat at Tuckertown Reservoir.
The Wildlife Commission is planning to add 100 artificial and natural structures at 37 sites to provide additional fishing areas for the angling public at the reservoir. The artificial reefs will be constructed of long-lasting plastic materials and will be installed at depths of 10 to 20 feet. In addition to the fish attractors, larger trees at selected locations will be felled into the water and cabled in place to supplement natural shoreline habitat. These fish attractors are intended to help offset the loss of aquatic vegetation in the presence of sterile grass carp.
Sterile grass carp are a practical and cost-effective means of controlling invasive aquatic weeds. In 2014 and 2016, sterile grass carp were stocked at Tuckertown Reservoir to control hydrilla, a state and federal noxious weed. Unfortunately, the Grass Carp also consumed beneficial native plants, resulting in a reduction of submersed aquatic vegetation at the reservoir. In addition, lyngbya (black mat algae) increased, which is a nuisance, mat-forming cyanobacterium that grass carp typically do not eat. This created a nuisance for anglers because of its hook-fouling properties. NC State University is currently developing a project to help determine effective methods of controlling lyngbya in Tuckertown Reservoir and Badin Lake.
“We want the public to continue to have fantastic opportunities to catch fish, particularly largemouth bass and crappies, which are well known in these waters,” stated Troy Thompson, a fisheries biologist with the Wildlife Commission. “It’s important that we listen to what the angler community suggests. They know this body of water well and their input will help our agency make the most educated decisions. We want the reservoir to thrive and be enjoyed by many generations to follow.”
The Wildlife Commission is seeking angler input on potential locations for these fish attractors. Anglers can send their suggested sites, including GPS coordinates or a detailed site description, to Troy Thompson at troy.thompson@ncwildlife.org or 910-439-2006.
The project is funded through the Sport Fish Restoration Program, which utilizes state fishing license money and federal grant funds derived from federal excise taxes on fishing equipment and motorboat fuels, and by a donation from Cube Yadkin Generation.

I am a self-confessed Olympics junkie. Every four years (well five, this time around) I become immersed in all manner of sporting events and hastily channel-surf past any other program. My interest is partly patriotism, but mainly, I’m fueled by a fascination with the people possessing the focused drive to invest years of their lives training to compete on this global stage. This year – given the dramatic COVID-19 pandemic backdrop – I have found the post-competition athlete interviews even more emotionally charged than usual. And though the array of Olympic athletes being questioned represent different nations and sports, there is a common thought-thread in their responses. They all find some way of saying ‘I didn’t get here by myself.’
I’ve heard swimmers, divers, gymnasts, runners, volleyballers or badminton players, all being interviewed. The sport and the language didn’t matter. When it came time to talk about the discipline, passion, and singular dedication necessary to excel, they all spoke of the support, encouragement, and inspiration they received from their family. Sometimes it was a single family member, more often it was the entire family unit and on occasion it was a whole community, including a meaningful coach. In doing so, Olympic athletes offer us a consistent reminder of how profoundly vital family support is to the individual’s ability to persevere, overcome adversity and find success.
The pandemic has brought its share of adversity and disruption, but what the Olympic athletes reinforce is that family empowers us to stay healthy physically, emotionally, and mentally. The side benefit of America’s pandemic pivot of sharing more meals at home is the increased health and emotional support that has accompanied our sharing food at the table with our family – even if that had to be accomplished virtually. According to research fielded by FMI and sponsored by the FMI Foundation, of those having in-person family meals, 70% feel more connected!
Just as the pandemic provides an intriguing backdrop to this year’s Olympics, it also adds a different feel to this year’s celebration of National Family Meals Month™ in September. Our theme of Stay Strong with Family Meals acknowledges the strength we have gained and encourages everyone to continue enjoying the nutritional, economic and social benefits of family meals. To help your company share the joy of family meals, the FMI Foundation has toolkits and resources on our website, www.fmifamilymeals.com, for retailers, suppliers, and community collaborators to leverage and make their own. We also have an online toolkit providing step by step guidance for those wanting to get September declared as Family Meals Month in their state or local municipality.
While planning for September’s celebration, we encourage you to partner with other companies to amplify each other’s efforts. This year, the FMI Foundation will be partnering with the American Heart Association and Common Threads to help us spread the message about the strong mental and physiological advantages of family table time.
Please let us know how you’ll be celebrating National Family Meals Month this September so that we can include your company on our partners page. We also encourage you to reach out if you have any questions or need help or materials for your activation. You can email the FMI Foundation team at familymealsmonth@fmi.org!
Most of all, I hope you will celebrate family meals by enjoying many meals with your family this September and beyond. Who knows, you may be dining with a future Olympic champion.
